Gigi
Gigi handles much of the day-to-day farm management, animal care, gardens, website, photography, writing, and education at Whitetail Hollow Farms. She’s usually the one documenting what’s happening around the farm, dreaming up and researching the next project, keeping the website and farm information moving forward, and turning real-life experiences into articles, resources, and lessons to share. -
Jed
Jed keeps one foot on the farm while also running our audio/video business, Carroll Custom Designs, and serving as the Southeast Deputy Director for Gun Owners of America and the Co-chair for Second Amendment Hunters. Around Whitetail Hollow Farms, he’s often the extra set of hands behind building projects, repairs, deliveries, animal work, and whatever unexpected job lands on the list that day. -
Ben
Ben grew up with Whitetail Hollow Farms, helping with animals, projects, repairs, and the never-ending work that comes with farm life.
These days he works as a Freight Conductor for CSX Railroad, but Whitetail Hollow Farms is still very much home. When he’s here, he regularly gets pulled into animal work, building projects, heavy lifting, troubleshooting, and whatever else happens to need an extra set of hands.
How We Got Here
The short version? We just kept adding things...
Whitetail Hollow Farms started nearly 30 years ago as a place to live a quieter country life, with no plans for a farm at all. Over time, wanting to do more for ourselves turned into gardens, buying more land, adding livestock, building barns, learning new skills, and random projects that gradually became permanent parts of the farm.
Some projects took far more time, money, or work than we expected. The farmstead we have today is the result of years of trying things, changing direction when something didn’t make sense, learning as we went, and figuring out what was worth keeping and building on...
What Whitetail Hollow Farms Is Today
Today, Whitetail Hollow Farms is probably best described as a farmstead: somewhere between a homestead and a full-scale farm, where raising animals, growing food, producing useful things, and everyday country life all overlap.
Some parts of the farm are well established. Others are still being built, rebuilt, expanded, or completely rethought as we figure out what works best for us. We sell what makes sense for the farm, teach from what we’ve actually done, and keep adding new ideas when they fit where we’re headed.
It’s busy, imperfect, always changing, and very much a work in progress.
Why We Share What We Learn
A lot of what we know came from figuring things out the hard way. We’ve made mistakes, changed our minds, wasted money on things that didn’t work, and learned plenty of lessons we wish someone had explained more clearly before we started.
That’s a big reason Whitetail Hollow Farms has become more than just the physical farm. We share what we’ve learned so other people can make better decisions, avoid some of the same mistakes, and see the practical side of raising animals, growing food, and building a more self-sufficient life.
We’re not interested in pretending everything works perfectly. If something fails, changes, or turns out differently than expected, that’s part of the story too.
